Yiqiang Zhang, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Biochemistry and Physiology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and is affiliated with JABSOM’s Center for Cardiovascular Research. He earned a B.Sc. in Biology and an M.Sc. in Physiology from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, and received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Montreal.
His research program in translational cardiobiology spans cardiac and stem cell biology, heart regeneration, cell-cycle control, epigenetics, and functional genomics, addressing heart failure, diabetes, arrhythmias, and inflammatory and congenital heart disorders. A central thrust of his current work leverages large omics data repositories and stem cell models — including single-cell approaches — to dissect the genetic and molecular basis of cardiac development and congenital heart defects.
In PAC-AID he leads Project 3 on the functional genomics of congenital heart disease.
