Youping Deng, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where he directs the Bioinformatics Core Facility. He earned his PhD in molecular pharmacology from Peking Union Medical College and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer and diabetes at Wayne State University in Detroit.
His research focuses on precision medicine for cancer using combined bioinformatics and experimental approaches, including computational methods development, circulating biomarkers for early cancer detection and outcome prediction, and integrative multi-omics analysis spanning genomics, epigenomics, and RNA-seq. With more than two decades of experience and a large body of published work, he applies these methods to cancer health disparities affecting Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Asian American populations.
He serves as a Full Member of the Cancer Biology Program and Co-Director of the Genomics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource at the UH Cancer Center, and holds graduate faculty appointments across multiple biomedical science programs. In PAC-AID he serves as Multiple PD/PI and Administrative Core Co-Director.
