Peter Sadowski, PhD

Peter Sadowski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information & Computer Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where he joined the faculty in 2018. He earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the California Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine.

His research centers on machine learning and artificial intelligence — particularly deep learning — and how these methods can address the most challenging problems in science and engineering, with applications spanning the natural sciences from cancer to climate. In 2023 he received a five-year NSF CAREER award for work on score-based diffusion models for probabilistic forecasting of weather and climate.

He co-founded and helps lead the AI Precision Health Institute, an effort to reduce the burden of cancer in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Islands. In PAC-AID he serves as Co-Director of the MEDAI (Medical AI & Data Science) Core.
