Elizabeth S. Nakasone, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist and gastrointestinal medical oncologist at the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center, where she serves as an Associate Member of the Cancer Biology Program. She earned her PhD from the Graduate School of Biological Sciences at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and her MD from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
She completed her internal medicine residency at UCLA and a hematology/medical oncology fellowship at the University of Washington / Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. Her translational research investigates how cell-adhesion-protein–mediated interactions drive metastatic dissemination and therapeutic resistance, with the goal of developing novel therapeutic strategies suitable for clinical-trial translation.
Her work has been supported by an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellowship studying the regulation of tumor-cell cooperation and breast cancer metastasis. In PAC-AID she leads Project 2 on the multi-omics of pancreatic cancer.
