Alexander (Sasha) Gusev, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he leads the Clinical Computational Oncology Group within the Division of Population Sciences. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and his PhD from Columbia University, with doctoral work on quantifying recent variation and relatedness in human populations.

His research develops statistical and computational methods to decipher disease mechanisms and trait biology from genome-wide association studies, including contributions to the transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) framework for mapping disease-associated genes. His cancer work studies the interplay between germline and somatic variation and its effects on cancer progression and therapy response.

He has received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the Leena Peltonen Prize, among other honors. In PAC-AID he serves as an external mentor for Project 4.
